Blood Pressure Medications
Copyright © 2004 Matthew G. Beckwith, MD

Blood pressure medicines fall into several classes. If you have another medical condition besides high blood pressure, then your doctor will consider this when deciding which medicines to prescribe for your high blood pressure.

The table below lists common medical conditions, and denotes whether the blood pressure medicines in each class are recommended or not recommended for people with those conditions.

Note: Patients will frequently be prescribed medications which in this table are listed as being not recommended . This is because there are other considerations (such as that the patient does not tolerate the medications which are recommended).
